Floors in houses and condos
Photos from several jobs of the same kind, shown together.
This page gathers floor screeds from several home jobs photographed between 2018 and 2023. Each one is a dry pack bed laid flat for the finish floor that went on top: tile, stone or wood, laid by the next trade.
In 2023, a panelled living room with a fireplace and chandeliers got a large, smooth screed across the whole floor, with two workers kneeling at the far side. In 2022 a corner condo room with floor-to-ceiling windows above the lake got a finished floor bed, a basement room was screeded by two workers with straightedges, and a fresh bed was laid around the opening of a curved staircase, where the edge has to follow the curve.
In an old block-walled basement in 2023, the bed was spread around the plumbing rough-ins already in the slab. The oldest photo, from 2018, is a two-car garage with a fresh, even floor bed and the edge being floated. Rooms like these are why a mortar bed is chosen: it fits whatever shape the room is.
