Brantford calls itself the Telephone City: Alexander Graham Bell's family homestead is on its edge, and the town grew on the Grand River with farm-implement and other factories. The older neighbourhoods, Eagle Place, Holmedale, the North Ward and the streets around downtown, are full of brick houses built for the people who worked there, many with small bathrooms on wood floors that have settled.
