Backyard pool floor

The floor of a backyard pool, photographed on the job on September 30, 2023. The mortar bed was laid in bays across the pool floor, each one screeded with a straightedge and floated, and the work moved back toward the steps so nobody had to cross a finished bay to get out.

One worker screeded while another followed behind, and by the end of the day the floor bed was floated from wall to wall, with one worker at the top step. A pool floor is not flat: it follows the shape the pool builder designed, and the bed has to hold those slopes and transitions while it cures.

The pool structure and its waterproofing belong to the pool builder, and the finish on the floor is laid by the pool or tile trade. This job was the bed in between, photographed from start to finish in a single day.
